Transhuman/EP Setting Elements
Hi all! Before I make one, does anybody know of a resource that contains setting inspiration for EP and other genre-related stuff? One of the hardest things to do in EP can be evoking a feel for the setting due to its alienness to our current experience. It would therefore be helpful to have a resource collecting plug'n'play setting ideas that could be mined for inspiration. For example a zero-g nightclub design, a popular Mesh craze that's currently ongoing, a new Petal, a social problem doing the rounds, a particularly popular morph model... things like that. Do they have this sort of thing on the Darkcast wiki?

I'm not aware of anything quite as modular as that. If you're looking for a quick-and-dirty introduction to the setting, I'd recommend Schismatrix. There's no book I'm aware of which covers as much territory as quickly (or is as interesting) as that one. Obviously, the setting isn't a complete match, but it'll introduce you to most of the concepts very quickly.

Re: Transhuman/EP Setting Elements
Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm pretty comfortable with the setting as a whole, it's just that sometimes it can be difficult to come up with appropriately transhumanish stuff on the fly as window dressing for what's going on. For example my players arrived on Extropia last night prior to a mission and stopped to refuel their new biomorphs. I came up with a slightly bland establishment on the fly but if I had a bunch of ideas to plug in I could have made that scene a bit more interesting without having to spend too much time shaping it.

You should check out the threads we have had about particular locations, like http://www.eclipsephase.com/building-extropia They tend to flesh out things a lot more. Generally, having people bounce ideas against each other is the best way of coming up with cool locations. I have some places described in more details on my site, http://www.aleph.se/EclipsePhase/ I usually have a list of random ideas, names or weird scenery I throw in when things get too bland: People with bioluminescent antlers, magnetic plants that make begging motions, a wall apparently made of living birds, translucent shielding showing the interior infrastructure of walls or the outside of a habitat, internet memes given physical form as robots, the rumour that the Child Collector is on the habitat, a drug that is used as a key, the consensual fascism movement, meterware nano, XEROSPECT Corporation, someone talking about his "massively parallel holiday", "Gossip - the first step to true knowledge", the battleship "The Tidiness Within", the popular AI character H2Olga, a drink called Thunder Nitrate, a building composed of just nanoswarms and swarmanoids, exercise nanodrugs, veterans from the Rift Valley Conflict...

I really liked the idea of the AI hotel in Altered Carbon, the Hendrix was the name of it I think.
