Philosophy has become an enjoyable topic thanks to Eclipse Phase, and I think that we should have a forum section dedicated to allowing people to argue about philosophical concepts. It could really be fun, and it might be a great way for all of us to really understand how people might think in a world like Eclipse Phase. Not only will that help out our roleplay chops, but it may very well help us prepare for a world that may very well be in our future.

I agree with this. Transhumanism is a well-explored subject in Communications Theory, so having a section dedicated specifically to discussions of philosophy and repercussions of those philosophies may bring some of the intellectuals working in those fields onto the website to educate us.

Where would you like to start off? Should we start the discussion on the idea of individuality in a transhuman world (keeping in mind EP technologies such as resleeving, backups, and forks)? Or maybe a discussion about social order in a transhuman world (who should be then new lower caste and why)?

If we also want to include economics we can talk about social freedom and the different economies.

It might be fun to take on the guise of one of the factions to make arguments. We could stick it in the In Character section as a Mesh-based argument between the great armchair philosophers of the different political and social factions. That way when we are making arguments we have a finite frame to work from, as any given question will be answered very differently by a bioconservative philosopher from the Jovian Republic and an Exhuman Infomorph working on a Scum ship. Basically I don't want to try and make any arguments that keep in mind the different world view of each of the groups at once.

I like this idea. I will use my in-game character Juan (see the IC Jovian discussion for his stats).

I'm using root, my Stellar Intelligence Infomorph who specializes in Muse Hacking and Psychosurgery. He'll be guiding Picollo, the Jovian Spy template.

I'd join in with Anon, a rather clueless fellow with a knack in mathematics and synthmorph design and engineering.

Explain this 'roleplay' concept to me...

(Yes, read this post after posting. TOO LATE! My response is too long for me to just delete it. I'll figure out a character later. Maybe.)

Juan:

I would be interested to see what the opinion of the outsiders is on infomorphs. As a Jovian citizen I know they have no rights and if not carefully controlled, they can lead to another fall (as with most transhuman technology). But being an intellectual I also see the benefit of downloading the greatest minds into government computers so that we can benefit from their teaching and knowledge long after they die. Of course the Jovian government views these infomorphs as nothing more then programs (as they should).
