So, I've seen the preview table of contents and I'm excited. Smile

I know it is going to Gencon, and I know that I am not. Since there are apparently therefore tangible copies in existence, do we have any ETA on when they'll be available for order?

Re: Panopticon?

Warning, the following post contains speculation!

From past release schedules, Posthuman normally don't release PDFs for ~2 weeks before the hardcopies become available in the US. Adam just posted on his twitter stream that the PDF isn't quite done, but might be 'shortly' after Gencon. So if I had to guess, I would say a release date of the 22nd, with the PDF being available on the 10th.

Again, speculation.

A question to creators of EP-did you guys thought of sending a free copy of Panopticon to David Brin? He loves anything that continues the idea of uplifting and isn't portrayed in negative light. I follow him on facebook and he seems very favourable to any new SF creations that expand on the idea, personally commenting on what he reads and watches in that area(not to mention he seems overall a very nice guy).

He is at least aware of the games existence, or was some time in the past. The Eye managed to get themselves a short interview with him for its first issue (?). The PDF will probably be released in the next few weeks, I would also be interested in hearing what he thinks about it.

Re: Panopticon?

So is there any additional previewing of this? Has anyone who purchased one at Gen Con posted a review?

I was a bit let down by the lack of coverage of RPG releases at Gen Con... I sort of expected bloggers and RPG news sites to be all over the various new releases and interviewing developers and whatnot. But I didnt really see anything like that.

Re: Panopticon?

Obviously I can't offer a review, but I sat down & read about half of my contrib's copy last night. It was the first time I'd seen the final cut, and... wow. I did the first cut of all the mechs for the habs section, with a small amount of background. What really impressed me was the job Rob did of editing together my material and that written by my co-author on the section, Justin Kugler (who happens to be an engineer at NASA), given that Justin & I were working pretty much independently of one another.

Broad brush, this book is a power tool for advanced GMing. It doesn't make the Core rules any heavier, but it gives GMs a lot of tools for arbitrating situations that came up during our home campaigns and weren't specifically covered. Which isn't to say that this is a GMing book only -- lots & lots of great new PC options in here, too.

Oh, and you can play a bipedal humanoid owl now. Awesome. Laughing out loud

And I am still a little worried about being under NDA, so I have purposely avoided putting my review online. I might not be, but I would rather not risk incurring the wrath of the great and mighty Boyle Tongue

As soon as the PDF goes up for sale, and I have had a chance to look through it to see what changes got implemented, my review will go up. Not much help I know.

(The Humanoid Owl is awesome)

In the context of a text named after a total surveillance concept? Suddenly I am having Dead Kennedys flashbacks...

Not that that's a bad thing.

I really think Posthuman have screwed themselves here. How the hell are they going to top an Octopus/Chimp gladiator death match cover? Rimward will pale in comparison!

I'd be curious to know more about this gladiator fight thing. that would make an awesome setting. I already have something similar on Gor Station, a 9 Lives led O'neill habitat in earth-sol L3 orbit

Dang no Amazon upload/sell page yet? Do any of you know how IPR ships? UPS/FedEx? I usually use Amazon because they ship USPS in the States, since me getting any other shipper deliveries to my home is nearly impossible, and the only alternative to signing for a home delivery is driving2 hours both ways to the Fedex depot.

Maybe I will have to be patient, but that book needs to be in my hands soon...ah the Humanity!

Now I feel lazy for not looking on their site my self. That will teach me. LOL. I have never bought anything from IPR but they do look like a cool store to buy from. I will have to get my Panopticon order going with them ASAP.

Unfortunately, buyng from IPR is just not an option from over here: to the shipping costs to Europe I would have to add the absolutely ludicrous new customs fees and taxes from our kind government. So I'll have to wait until it appears at Leisure Games or something.

I need instant satisfaction, though. I need the hack pack Wink

I didn't realise that it was already available from IPR.

But yeah, same problem as Albertorius. Unless I know someone who's coming over from the States and can send it to their house first I never go with IPR due to shipping. Maybe one day they'll get UK printers like Drivethru.rpg.

Look at my country: in Poland I must pay a lot of polish money to buy EP (even from Amazon). One dollar = ~3 polish zloty

1£ = ~5 polish zloty

Yhh.. I need wait for some money and buy hardcopy -.-'

I'm not sure what that actually works out as. I know it's not nice to pay more for a product than others - it's more expensive here than in the US for the same product. I don't actually mind paying more for the product, but I resent paying so much for shipping as my money doesn't go to the publisher.

But hey, the softcopy version is still free if you need it to be Smile

Seriously though, I'm enjoying this book immensely. I'd say it's a book that every GM need to have, and every player needs their GM NOT to have. There's a lot of good, basic groundwork, as well as some fun additions (mostly the uplifts!) I'm still digesting, but I'm going to begin writing up some cheat-sheet summaries for myself soon.

(And yes Kindalas, you've got some work heading your way with your character generator!)

Ugh, yes. If I ordered via IPR I'd have to pay:

- 44.99$ for the book (around 31.14 euro)
- 29.25$ for the cheapest ahipping option to Spain (around 20.24 euro, total 51.38 euro)
- 15 euros for customs storage + handling (plus other 15 for every two additional weeks)
- 18% VAT for the total cost of the thing, inc. shipping, so 9.25 euro)
- 2% flat customs fee... calculated from the total previous costs, so another 1,51 euro

For a total (it I go to Madrid to get it myself, that is; if not I'd have to pay more; fortunately I live there, but I know of people that travels around 400 Km for the privilege) of 77,14 euro, or $111.47

...just no >_<. I'll happily pay 20 bucks for the hack pack and order from Leisure Games whenever the hardcopy is avaliable. I'll pay less and more money will get to Posthuman's pockets.

Well, I just got notice from IPR that my preorder shipped. That didn't take long.

I really hope that for future releases, Posthuman can try to offer the PDF+Hardcopy combos like they did for the original game.

The delayed release of Panopticon in electronic formats was not intentional. Gen Con + life got in the way of our plans there.

However, we have no current plans for resuming the PDF+Hardcopy combos. You can already download all of our electronic releases for free, if you think that shelling out the $10 (or a bit more for the Hack Pack version) isn't reasonable on top of the print cost.

I've read the RPG.net thread wherein you discussed the difficulty of crafting PDFs. I understand the added labor involved, and I'm willing to compensate you for them (I've bought both print and digital copies of everything you've released to date, as far as I'm aware). I'd just ideally like to be able to make the purchase in one go as a convenience. Smile

Happily waiting to pay for a PDF version and starring daggers at Amazon for not having a pre order option up yet. (understand issues there, need a PDF to tide me over till they catch up.)

Amazon is getting more conservative about when they launch orders/pre-orders, which actually suits us just fine.

Ordering is better than pre-ordering. Smile

I LOVE the chapter opener pic for the Habitat part!
The artist started from a view of the Citadel and made it his own. Shame he edited the Council Tower, though. But I can understand why, it's a Seed AI magnet! But at least we still have the Presidium! my favorite place on Citadel, aside of the Flux and Chora's Den!

on the hack pack, am I the only one who's having trouble seeing the PSD pictures? on my Gimp and AVS and Quicktime, a good portion of them comes out as totally white. Most of the Logo, all of the Gears, several of the artworks...

saved the pdf on my ipad so I'll be able to read it more at ease while I'm waiting my turn at the doctor, tomorrow.

Well fuck. I guess I have a new favourite morph. That picture of the Chickcharnie is way too awesome. I was having a fair bit of trouble imagining what it was going to look like, from the proofreading notes. My Neo-Avian sniper character has a new standard request morph.

Such a good book.
