What's up with the blue planet? In the rpgnet - summary it`s called a toxic hellhole. Does that mean unhabitable at all or just destructed ecology ... do we talk "Do androids dream ...", "Ergo Proxy" or "your average barren planet alike the Moon" here? Short: Is there a greater population of transhuman life on earth and will it prevail?

...and the Moon?
...if I may add to your query Imago... ... and what is the condition of the Moon? There is not much in the way of an ecosystem to trash but I can't imagine the slugfest between transhumanity and the TITANS going on without ol' Luna getting at least collateral damage.

It's habitable, but severely wrecked. Most importantly, it's dangerous -- the TITANs' machines are still all over. For that reason, it's interdicted. Their are some survivors still down there, but the hypercorps won't admit to that.

The Moon's not in bad shape.
The Moon's not in bad shape. They managed to snuff any major TITAN outbreaks there. Same with Mars, except for one area that's still dangerous and off-limits.

Sounds sorta like Earth as it was described in "Schismatrix"... barring the free-ranging TITAN machines... sound about right? And what role does the Moon play in all of this now?

Hrm, been a while since I read Schismatrix, and I don't remember any specific references they made to Earth. The nearest similar novel I can think of that treats Earth this way is Alistair Reynolds's Century Rain, though in that book Earth is more overtaken by nuclear winters and grey goo.

The Moon is inhabited, and in fact was overrun by refugees. It is part of one of the three power blocs in the inner system.

I seem to have misplaced my ecosystem
It's "Ergo Proxy", "Hardware", or "Screamers". Will the squishies prevail without outside intervention? Not likely.

But it's more fun (and maybe the basis of an adventure) to think that they can.

Well I think you could come
Well I think you could come up with a great campaign dealing with day to day survival and maybe a "crazy but it just might work" plan to get off world. Then of course if successful I'm sure the survivors would be quite a vocal force for the reclamation of Earth and saving those left behind. Then you'd have your outside intervention.

I can see it now. The party

I can see it now. The party wakes up in a buried military compound. They're either in synths or they were in cryosleep or some other plot devicey thingy. They have to escape a secure compound filled with defenses and traps. Then, when they think they've made it, they find out that outside is worse.

I'd love to do that to a group of players with no knowledge of the game back story. They think they're about to win, then you leave them with the bioplagues, the nanoswarms and the killsats.

Re: I can see it now. The party

what could be worse is that the PC discover they're forks
not even Alpha-forks, mind you, but Beta-forks created years even before the fall
hell, they might be forks of high profile npc characters like Dr Ming

Nobody's going to take them away for this hell, nobody knows they're here, and nobody would care to spend money or risk their lives for forks
