I yearn for the day when I can also use reputation to get loans.

I-isn't that exactly what the current credit system is? I build rep (credit) by proving my trustworthiness, and can then use that rep (credit) to acquire services (monetary loans).

You should also add to your title "and to jobs". When 3D printers will become very widely used it will result in huge unemployment as factories in offshore countries will become too expensive. This will have bigger effect than online piracy.
Not to mention it will help gangs, criminals and terrorist organizations in big way(easy access to weapons, drones, IED designs).

They already have easy access to those. Improvised explosives are incredibly easy to make, and AK-47s are produced by the truckload by people living in caves with little more than simple hand tools. This really wouldn't add anything new to their arsenal.

That being said, the technology to rapidly prototype, say, an explosive or a drone would be sufficient technology to eliminate most scarcity and, hence, the need or want for terrorist or criminal organizations.

Depends on the country, where I live despite high criminality and widespread presence of criminals firearms are difficult to obtain and most criminals are without them.

It only eliminates need for cheap manufacturing, it doesn't mass produce energy or land to build houses on which is owned by people(just two examples, they are more). Plus terrorism or criminality doesn't have to be based on lack of access to resources(religious terrorism for example, ideological one, and in case of criminality rapes, violence fantasies etc).

Gotta take the bad with the good.

Nothing's free, after all.

Are you in the UK, by any chance?

It needs to be mentioned that the determined can always acquire firearms, and raising or lowering the numbers of them available appears to have little effect on crime rate when compared to, say, standard of living for a region. Switzerland, for example, is ranked 4th in the world for gun ownership, and France and Canada are 12th and 13th respectively.

Reducing the desire to use weapons lowers the rate of use far more effectively than reducing their accessibility.

Energy accessibility dramatically increases when people can fabricate solar panels for a handful of cents. Land isn't a huge issue when you can build skyscrapers. History shows again and again that increased access to education and resources causes people to find better things to do with their time than blow themselves up.

As for criminals acting out because of fantasies, such people will commit such acts regardless. They've never had trouble developing weapons in the past. The Unabomber, Timothy McVeigh, etc. The truly determined will always find a means to kill.

I live in Poland(unfortunately), although as can be guessed I am trying to find money to escape to UK Wink

The determined yes, but common thugs are too poor and without connections to acquire them in a country where there is no mass market for guns(like in the USA)

Well USA has very liberal gun laws(far more liberal than Switzerland)

Switzerland, for example, is ranked 4th in the world for gun ownership
That's fluke, most of them are military fires stored dissembled in private homes from what I know.

I would have to check France, but Canada does have high homicide rate and large crime rate as well.

They will need raw materials to do that, and energy for production in the first place, plus solar panels are too inefficient to provide energy needed by current society, not to mention future one, or in countries where there is little sunshine.

Why should I want to live in a crowded skyscraper when CEO Rich McRich has a mansion with gardens and lake?

Germany in 1939 had more educated people and more resources than Germany of 1871. Which one would you prefer to live in?

Actually that is incorrect, Unabomber had very flawed bomb designs, and there plenty of examples were people determined to kill made non-working bombs(see Columbine massacre where the two responsible planted botched bombs). When 3D printing will get perfected all this will go away-with one click of a button anyone with a grudge will be able to print a gun or a bomb. The influence on violence will be huge, many developed countries could see homicide and crime rates on the level of USA.
