I'd be interested in joining up with this game; I won't have time to do character creation until later tonight, after holiday stuff is finished.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Great! I look forward to reading your character concept. Blarney should have his posted soon, too, so hopefully we'll be good to go by Thursday.

Even if we're not quite ready to play yet, let's all plan to meet up Thursday on the MUSH for a planning, prep, and general game-related chat.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Ok, here is a brief writeup. I'm happy to wrangle whatever details to help make it work more successfully.

1. Name: Jackson Kale
2. Occupation: Smuggler / Black Marketeer / Entrepreneur
3. Faction Affiliation (if any): Barsoomian
4. Opinions on Hypercorps, Barsoomian Movement, Tharsis League, Planetary Consortium, and/or any other particularly relevant factions to your character: Kale has a member of "the Movement" since he was a child, growing up in the rough Martian wilderness in a family of TerraGenesis employees. After winning a bet whose 'pot' was a premium ruster, Kale quit his own job at TG and decided to start up his own Barsoomian-friendly fab/distro business. Upset at the living conditions of so many rednecks - including his own family - Kale is not at all sympathetic to the PC and ambivalent to the TL, being very skeptical of the league's members' connections to various hypercorps. Instead, Kale supports efforts undertaken by groups across the solar system to establish their own autonomy and independence, including uplift rights; however, he, like so many others, is not interested in AGI rights, viewing non-living entities as 'tools' that shouldn't be given a sympathetic face (reflective of the RL farmer/rancher perspective on the 'working pet' or faceless livestock).
5. Reason for being a member of Firewall: Kale currently makes a living by acting as a fence for shady individuals and groups to help support his goal of improving living conditions for rednecks across Mars. He regularly explores the Martian wilderness to scavenge what he can, to survey areas for potential habitation, and to distribute fabricated goods to those living outside civilization's borders. FW contacted him because of this inner drive - he wants to get things done and can figure out how to jury-rig up a solution, even if it's a temporary one.
6. Character concept summed up in a few sentences: Barsoomian redneck mechanic / fence / scavenger

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Here's my character writeup; I'll get a full character sheet posted soon.

1. Name: Seth Gamal Nasser
2. Occupation: Explorer, sometime scum barge security
3. Faction Affiliation: Scum
4. Opinions
a. Hypercorps: Seth's opinions on hypercorps are not positive; he believes that the hypercorps are tyrannical, exploitative overlords. He reserves special enmity for Pathfinder; he believes they are holding access to exoplanets (and thus the future survival of transhumanity) ransom for the sake of profit.
b. Barsoomian Movement: Seth sympathizes with the Movement, and especially with its goals regarding deregulation of tehnology and mesh traffic. He's been part of a couple teams where Scum-based Barsoomian sympathizers have run black-market tech to Barsoomian groups.
c. Tharsis League: As a dyed-in-the-wool anarchist, Seth isn't really a fan of government in general, and especially not a government - theoretically representative though it may be - that's that big and corrupt. Plus they're basically just in the Consortium's pocket anyway, which isn't much better than being outright hypercorp-owned.
d. Planetary Consortium: Too big, too corporate, too evil. Seth's got nothing good to say about the PC - shocking, given his views on hypercorps.
5. Reason for being a member of Firewall: Seth was recruited into Firewall based on his ability to travel and gather information as part of scum clades, and his willingness to engage in a little harmless - or harmful - breaking and entering. He has turned out to be a tenacious agent, one willing to leverage scum, underworld, and gatecrasher contacts in order to get to the bottom of a mystery.
6. Character concept summed up in a few sentences: Wannabe gatecrasher / explorer / infiltrator. He has minor contacts amongst gatecrashers, and keeps up on the latest research, news, and gossip (especially what comes out of the autonomist gatecrasher crews and the Love & Rage Collective), but has never been through a gate himself. He's fairly handy in a fight, but prefers stealth and infiltration to overt hostilities.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Kale looks good. For Nasser, why has he settled down in Valles-New Shanghai? It would be helpful to me if you'd flesh out his ties to Mars a little. The basic concept looks pretty solid, though. As a note, x-rep and the corresponding networking: gatecrashers are available, as it seems like they would be fitting for the character.

This is my updated character sheet. Only minor changes. Apparently the one I uploaded before had my Research skill at only 30, which is not this character's concept at all. Research is a primary goal of hers, so I pumped it, and it should be correct now.

I'm pretty sure I have every skill necessary to do hacking/infiltration and general B&E stuff. If anyone sees something I'm missing, please tell me so I can make appropriate changes. I have gone through about 20 versions of this character since editions have changed and character sheet upgrades have happened with no easy way to copy and paste from one version to the next.

Thanks!

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Here's Seth's character sheet.

Re: Seth's connections to Mars and Valles-New Shanghai, he's probably in the city looking for work - perhaps criminal, definitely under-the-table - to tide him over until something interesting comes up. He's cut himself loose from a scum clade that he was travelling with for a little while, so he's probably looking for the Next Thing to come along, and is likely trying to decide whether to travel over to Pathfinder City and see if he can hook up with some gatecrashers there, or try and find some other scum clade to hook up with and maybe head out towards the outer system.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Only thing I see for Seth now is that his armor clothing doesn't have the chameleon coating modification -- I expect you'll either want that or a chameleon cloak, since otherwise it reduces the effectiveness of the chameleon skin. The chameleon coating armor mod is only a trivial cost item, so you can afford it without having to find points for more cash.

Ahh, good catch, thanks Tyrnis. Here's Seth's amended sheet..

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Here's my modified character sheet: http://www.mediafire.com/?h5c56633yo52mbk

Only a couple of tweaks to skills, the biggest being removing my 25 ranks in cryptography. That, plus trimming 5 here, 10 there, and using them to infiltration up to 50. It seems like a good complement to my social/deception/sense motive skills. Still going to be crap at freerunning.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

I totally spaced last week that I was going to be unable to join tonight on the game. I am currently only able to get internet on my phone where I am and that is no good for these types of things. I hope someone gets this before game tonight and can share with others. Sorry. I could be available during the weekend if we wanted (same time).

Tyrnis Tyrnis's picture
Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Sounds like we should probably just call it for this week, then. You're not going to be there at all and Kale is going to be out celebrating being ABD and so running late. We'll pick back up next week at the usual time.

I won't be around for the next couple of sessions, since the bar exam is at the end of the month. See y'all in March!

If there's one thing this adventure has taught me so far, it's that I should never roll dice, ever. But at least I'm not dead ... yet.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

And even if the criminal charges you'll have pending stick, you ought to get some @-rep with the more extreme elements of the Barsoomian movement out of the deal.

I was planning to make it back tonight, but I'm not going to make it. Next week should be fine, though. I hope I haven't been too much of a drag, sorry :(

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

You're currently dead, so it's actually pretty easy to justify keeping you out of the action for one more session. Looking forward to having you back next week, though! (Getting killed buying Quarky as much time as you could seemed like the best way to justify you being out of action for several sessions. If they're not able to recover your body, your backup insurance will cover everything, but I've got high hopes that they'll be able to recover your stack at minimum.)

Hello, I'm very interested in playing Eclipse Phase and I was told to come here. I have a character (mostly) made up, if y'all are interested in having me join. I'd like to know if there's anything that would be needed from me in making a character and how I might be introduced into the game.

Tyrnis Tyrnis's picture
Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Hi! If you could post your concept here in the same basic format that the others did, that would be very helpful. Don't worry too much about your sheet just yet, we'll get to that once we make sure the concept is a good fit for the group.

Once I get a look at your concept, we'll see about when you can meet with us on the MUSH and visit, and we'll go from there.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Okay, got a concept for the character I want to play.

1. Name: Lorenzo Videcorri

2. Occupation: Doctor.

3. Faction Affiliation (if any): Anarchists.

4. Opinions on factions: He feels that hypercorps and the Planetary Consortium are the most disgusting exploiters in the system and the Tarsis League is terribly corrupt. He identifies with the Barsoomians as abused and exploited people outside of "the good life" and has a high opinion of autonomists in general.

5. Reason for being a member of Firewall: Lorenzo has always done what he can to try and help people, and sometimes feels like his efforts have done nothing but treat the symptoms of a decaying society. When he learned about Firewall he jumped at the chance to take an active part in the preservation of transhumanity.

6. Character concept summed up in a few sentences: He's coarse, crude, and scumborn. He's also associated with militant autonomists in the past, but is genuinly altrustic at heart. His professional training is all informal, but he has enough practical experience to call himself a doctor with confidence. Between his outspoken political beliefs, past actions, and generally "low-class" demeanor, he has difficulty interacting with some people. The fact that he wound up stuck in a pleasure pod doesn't help.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Oi, also looking for an online game.*

1. Name: Carlos "- Just Carlos". Firewall Alias: Cygnus

2. Occupation: Bodysnatcher (aka Morphjacker; a guy whose occupation is jacking people's morphs, and selling them for mad credits).

3. Faction Affiliation (if any): Criminal

4. Opinions on factions: Doesn't care, mostly. Doesn't like the corps, but also sees the anarchists as a bunch of self-important hypocrites. The Argonauts are alright, if careless and naive. Ultimates are not as superior as they think they are, and a nice source of high-priced morphs as well. Brinkers he can respect; sure, they're crazy, but at least they have the courage to be their own kind of crazy rather than copying everyone else's crazy, and then on top of that they have the decency to keep their crazy to themselves.

5. Reason for being a member of Firewall: It's something to do; if he's going to be doing something, he might as well do this thing. And really, he loves it. He gets a thrill knowing that he's the thing that's standing between humanity and extinction, and the ability to operate with near anonymity, backed by Firewall's Ministry of Disinformation, is just icing on the cake. His ego-centric view of things is held in check by an equally ego-centric pride in his work; he'd die to preserve Firewall, because being the kind of person who'd die to save Firewall is pleasing, even if the actual dying part isn't.

6. Character concept summed up in a few sentences: Character is someone without a strong identity, but a very strong personality. Carlos is an alias; has undergone heavy psychosurgy at his own request to become who he is now, and remembers little of what happened before - nor does he care about his past. He is who he is now; the past is mostly irrelevant. Tends to keep communication short and too the point, on the job, but isn't above a little bit of trolling if he thinks he can get away with it. Can switch fluidly between being a leader and advisory, but is never afraid to make the first move. "Never hesitate" is the closest thing he has to a motto. Character skills include social skills, infiltration, melee combat, and some hacking and tech.

*Possibly willing to GM if necessary, but I have yet to really play an EP game (because no one I know wants to GM, so I'm always the GM). Also, for the purposes of this post, I'm using 'he' in the gender-neutral sense - Carlos has a very fluid gender identity.

There's only one open slot in the game, just so you're both aware. The game won't be meeting this week due to prior engagements that two of the players had, but I'll talk with them next week and see what they think.

Seems reasonable enough. PM me or something if you have any questions about the character concept or me as a player, or if there's something I can do to help out.

I'm not adverse to remaking the character, or building a different character to fit the campaign or other characters.

I'm cool with whomever!

I would recommend you both log into the MUSH sometime in the next few days to get an initial feel for the interface etc. to see if it's a medium you'd enjoy using!

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

You can let the other guy take the open slot. I have another group forming that I can join, we just need to find a GM.

I talked to the group during last night's session, and they're all on board with you joining up. If you don't have one already, please put together your character sheet. If you've got Google Docs or a similar service, if you could share the document and post the link here, that would be ideal. If you'd prefer to email it to me, drop me a PM and I'll give you my email address.

Hey guys. No game for tomorrow night. Between school commitments and it being a friend's birthday, I'm not going to have time to run. We'll pick back up the following week on the 19th as normal.

Re: Looking for online (not PbP) game weeknights/Sunday nights

Tonight and next Thursday will be my last sessions until Thursday May 24th, as I'm going on vacation to a place where I will not have sufficient internet access to actually login and in a timezone where I should likely be sleeping or just getting up at the time we game. I will talk to you all after I get back, but Tyrnis if you want to start keeping that in mind for my character she can either run in the background doing other tasks, or we can just have her vanish for some reason for a few weeks. Just didn't want to be in the middle of combat or something and suddenly not show up the next week.

The game hasn't been going for a while, I'm afraid. It did last for several months, but eventually attrition dropped the number of players too low for sustainability.

Well, if interest increases again, I'm keen for a game.

I played a game of DND using the (soon to be released) http://www.roll20.net system and it was actually pretty good. I'm actually convinced of the viability of online gaming now. Finally.
