The response has been overwhelming for this. At another posters suggestion what started out as an experiment on my part, I'm moving to the IC section to continue.
Thanks guys.
Direct Action my ass, and same goes for the Barsoomians. I got a couple friends with them, you know, and I asked them about it. Fuck, they have nothing to do with the whole issue, you know. I tell you, the key is that one weird guys that hasn't been identified.
He (got a friend in a hacker ring who checked out the recordings and it is a male morph) seems to be a Gorgon agent. Probably the whole fucking bomb was a way for Direct Action to take on their enemies, you know. Afterall, they care a shit about our lives, and probably view killing a couple morphs as something "good for the business".

Information is scarce, but initial reports are that an older Kennedy class corvette crashed into the Agita refueling/mining habitat earlier this last morning. Rockjacks in the area have been unable to raise anyone on the mesh, and radio contact has been largely intermittent.
Anyone knows anything about this? I have a boyfriend there, and I'd like to know if he's okay, and yet the communications seem to been down most of the time. I would consider it a big favor if anyone could get me some information on Klaus Schattler, hopefully soon, I'm dead worried.
Jeremy Karte - scientist investigator for the Extropia corporation
Heh, a nice neat piece of propaganda from your animal-lover near home. Come on, give me a break, humans don't enslave each other anymore, we are way beyond that. We are transhuman. Besides, in any case, even if that were true, they should be thankful to us for giving them reason and intelligence, and be willing to work to repay us for our efforts. What would they be without us? Nothing, just another ape, or maybe an octopus in a zoo. We are their Gods, they should revere us as such.
Weena Lorris - Ultimate ego hunter from the zone around Venus.
You! Who do you think you are with all your high opinion of yourself? We are all the same, sentient beings, you know? We deserve to be treated as such! We didn't ask you to uplift us, nor did we ask you to destroy our homeworld. We are reduced to what we are because of you, human! So don't act all high and mighty because you "gave us" reason, for you have all proven to be quite far from it yourselves.
You created AI, AGIs and seeds to be your slaves. You created us to be your slaves. We may not have the power of the Seeds, but we will make you rethink your society non the less. I call for a march on the nearest representative of the Jovian Republic to your houses tomorrow at 12:00 to show our support for our brothers. All unite to the rallying call!
Soook-hoo-ham - aerospacial engineer for the Fa Jing corporation, and a neo avian uplift.
Nah, probably nothing nuclear at all, don't give credit to those alarmists. I was on my turn in the shipyards in Extropia last time they came around, and they asked for some repairs in the main engines and energy outputs of their capitol ship. Thing is, they weren't capable of repaying us all with any kind of help or service at all, and simply wanted us to repair them due to our kindness.
Now, don't take me wrong, if there hadn't been so much works those weeks, I would have gladly helped, but a large freighter was being repaired after a hit against another ship during the docking sequence, and work was demanding and stressful. Last thing I wanted was to work more on my free time.
I did warn them, though, not to fly and wait instead in Extropia for some weeks so we could get on with their own ship. But you know how scum are, they listen to their own and follow their own rules... and I'm not precisely a known member of any @-rep list. So they just said a harsh thanks and took off. I believe some of them did upgrade their resleving contracts before leaving, though, and updated new copies of themselves, so they shouldn't have lost much. Of course, I'm sure most of them didn't.
Olga Kirishnova - hangar chief in the Saatchel Brothers Shipyards, Extropia.
The cause was *obviously* not the core. Fusion cores do not explode (despite what preservationists claim). In a worst case scenario they merely vent a plasma jet, and usually breakdowns just light up the cooling baffles. However, Ecstatic Metamorphosis was a lightly modified Doncaster 4300 model, and they keep their D/He3 pellets in a group of cryocyls 20 meters forward of the core. That is quite close to the apparent center of the detonation in the footage.
What could make the pellets detonate? Again, no matter what dirthuggers say, no amount of normal violence could have ignited them. Break the cryocyls and they evaporate. However, a detonation strong enough to produce fusion reactions might do it: a thermonuclear warhead or an antimatter charge. In theory even a fission warhead might work, but there are obvious alignment problems - getting a radiation implosion for even one cryocyl would take massive effort and luck.
So, what was it? All footage I have found is in the optic spectrum and whites out almost directly. However, I downloaded [this] file from the Quentin Daniels Observatory and you can see a very weak neutrino peak. I interpret this as antimatter: the typical gamma signature got entirely absorbed by the surroundings. Had it been a thermonuke there would have been a sharper initial pulse from the warhead followed by a softer pulse from the pellets.
Even with a big warhead one has to put it in the right place to get some of the pellets to detonate. I would guess, based on the size of the detonation and the pulse, that the pellets at most did 75% of the total energy output, perhaps less than 50%. That is still pretty good going: whoever put the warhead in place knew what it would do, and did not trust the warhead itself to wipe out the barge. Given that we are talking about multimegaton charges that assumes more than just terrorism: this was either art for art's sake or an attempt to *really* get rid of something or someone.
Too bad about the inhabitants, but as an inverse problem deducing the attack is quite intriguing. I have run a few back-of-the-envelope simulations of the detonation, trying to match it with the observations. Does anybody have recent deckplans or scans of the barge?

I remember hearing rumors there were more than just scum on board. I heard there was some weird shit going down on there. Experiments with nanotech and mind-altering computer viruses and shit. Maybe someone took them down for the good of the rest of mankind before they started Fall 2.0, Fall Harder.
-Anonymous Account, Mesh ID Unknown
If someone were trying to stop that, they would have to blow up half of the solar system.
I expect it was just the usual crappy maintenance and/or gangster infighting we have come to expect from the scum. Remember what happened to New Qingdao and Phenomenal Deee-Lite.
Stewart Xiang-Lorenzo, rep trader, AboveBeyond Station
Icosa is full of it. The explosion had exactly the right magnitude to be the evaporation of a quantum black hole. Someone had found a way of making them, and then got Hawkinged to plasma.
- Nightflight, physics enthusiast, Prometheus Station
Black holes don't exist. They are a figment of politically correct physic's fevered imagination and an long-running cover-up in the astronomy community (We have known FOR A CENTURY that Eddington made up his eclipse observations!). Space-time isn't rubber! The Pandora gates are not wormholes. WAKE UP: Riemannian space-time is a tool of oppression. Even Einstein admitted that! See [this], [this] and [this] site for more information how the Riemannian metric is being used by the power elite!

Thought on form... The original poster mentioned trouble with the news voice. I had some issues with this, too. I usually get around it by just providing world news, but in an omniscient third person voice. Heinlein's _Stranger in a Strange Land_ is an example of this method being used to good effect.
Why so little news? I am getting very worried, the niece of my crèche-mate was at Agita. Have the stacks at least been retrieved?
I'm calling on others: if there are no rockjacks nearby, we should form an ad hoc and pool to get a rapid response to Agita? 5095 Escalante might be in the right position. They at least have a pulse-jumper.

***Breaking news:***
Today at aproximately 14:00 by local time, a Factor ship has been sighted approaching Jupiter. It isn't clear which of the moons or habitats it is planning to visit, but it seems likely that it will head to Experia's "2001" space station, orbiting Europa, as their directions seem to collide. More information will follow as we confirm or not wether the Factors are organizing a visit to Experia's base.
Did you hear it? Gorgon Defense Systems sent a hitsquad today to attack "Netherworld", an anarchist settlement in the exterior rim. They have shown proofs that a group of exhuman scientists there were investigating about a new Seed. As if we hadn't had enough of them! Gorgon assaulted the station, and took them all prisoner, even if they hold no real jurisdiction over the place. It was a simple use of brute force. Twenty witnesses confirm that the half-finished seed AI was deleted, and no copies kept.
Of course, no one should be surprised to know that the Planetary Consortium, and specially Direct Action is using this to attack Gorgon. You know, inadequate use of force, brutality, and all that. And, without surprise, they claim that all the seed AI information is false, and only a reason made up by Gorgon to justify the assault.
I'm in Mars myself, so I can't research it at all with the lag. Is anyone near? Anyone knows anything more?
Ok, I opened a new topic, just to organize this one a bit. This should still be the one to use to post stuff, while the otherone simply gathers each news article with the comments regarding it. That way it is easier to copy/paste them, or print them for using them in game, or anything else like it.

I have a friend that lives in a station near by. He confirmed to me that they did indeed dock in 2001 at 18:34. They remained there for two long days, and now they have seemed to depart and head to the outer rim. Strange thing is that the station has closed it's comm and mesh links with the exterior, and isn't admiting egocasting anymore. Anyone knows why? What did the Factors do there?

I'm posting this here as I did in the "clean" post, just so it remains as it should always be.
A terrible accident has taken place in the third biggest of the Venusian mining operations. During the turn-shift, an explosion happened, origin unknown. Over a dozen workers have been lost apparently forever, their cortical stacks completely irrecoverable, and with them their dreams of a new morph after their indentured working. Today transhumanity counts 12 members less.
Meanwhile Miss Vijja, the appointed representative of the Morningstar Constellation was, meanwhile, waiting for the new appointed representative of the Planetary Consortium Miss Jeue in the station of Octavia. She was wearing a very beautiful but most distateful dress by Branimira Ivanova, completely breaking the usual protocols and mocking the Venusian traditions. Still, Miss Jeue finally didn't attend, as she retired in show of respect to all who died in the surface, leaving Miss Vijja alone and looking completely out of place.
I know this is an official news item, as it is the opening story of Sunward, but this way it can be handed to players without raising suspicions if they haven't read the book.
It was offensive! It was like she didn't care for all those dying underneath her nice station. Well, down here we work and try our best to keep your sorry assess up there well fed and provided! You could at least respect the propper etiquette and not go around flashing in a dress that costs more than my whole year's favors and work! Someone should teach you respect....

While the events on Venus are probably canon, Viija isn't a miss, they're neuter. EP recommends using the Singular They when gender for a person is a little more than innie or outie, however I'm not sure what title one uses for someone gender-neutral or otherwise gender-trancendent. Also, Viija's official title from Melt is Emmisary.

You should shift this into the In Character section of the forum and rename it something like: Experia System News: the clearest voice in politics and reporting. The original poster can do all of that from the Edit tab.
This can be a fantastic resource for players, gamemasters, and writers to try out their voices. We will come to a sort of "standard" voice by the magic and science of crowd sourcing.

Rgr, I'll move the finished post to the other side, and thus keep this one as discussion here as Raincheck would be needed. I didn't know it could be done by the original poster and didn't need any mod intervention. And I'll edit all references to Vijja and Jeue and keep them both a more official Emisary.
Extropia's Fall Justice Foundation has today moved and added a generous bounty on the head of Dr. Ivan A. South. In an unprecedented move, and for unclear reasons, the Foundation has decided to get in the middle of the conflict between the Jovian Junta (who currently has Dr. South as one of their citizens) and the Planetary Consortium (that asks for his extradition). This has increased the diplomatical confrontation, with no solution in sight.

Unless of course somebody does manage to knock off Dr South, in which case everybody gets a chance to join hands and denounce the Fall Justice Foundation.
There is more to this than politics, though. The Foundation only puts bounties on people the information market assigns a great deal of confidence to. We know people have been trying to bias the predictions before (and their money has been happily eaten by the markets), but there is no sign of increased liquidity in the South information betting pool. It has rushed up in confidence, though: it seems that new information has arrived, but nobody seems to know what it is. That is very strange. Guanxi manipulation through sock puppets? Some intelligence trading firm that has nosed up something and plans to make a killing?
I don't think anybody is manipulating the Foundation directly. But someone put in all that money for the bounty too, and it was hardly the Martian Railroad Workers Retirement Fund. There are hidden interests here that go beyond diplomacy and justice. I just wonder who profits from more snarls with the jovians.

Last rumours say that Extropia may be also filing some bounty on one Dr. Irina Vorishnova, a former Russian Artificial Intelligence investigator, from times before the Fall. Supposedly connected to the Fall in some way. But my investigations on the Mesh haven't turned out anything on her, seems like she wasn't reported as a survivor at all, and may have died somewhere in her homeland.
Any clue as to why the Foundation is stepping up on its pretensions to hunt Fall Criminals? Maybe they know something we don't, or maybe Janseen was right when he said some hidden interests are moving.
Bah, anyway, I guess a rumour can't be trusted too much in any case.

Don’t say it aloud, but something happened down on Earth. Yeah, I know you’re interested in this kind of things, so I wanted to thank you and your friends for your gifts the other week. In any case, I’m drifting. I was working yesterday on a late night shift here in Luna, when I noticed that the mass driver was activating. I don’t work that near to it, but you know I have a couple cameras on it… to keep an eye over it. It’s a little hobby of mine. In any case, I kept watching as a massive rock came out and sped towards Earth.
I don’t know why, I mean TITANs are long gone, but it headed there at a quick speed and it is obvious it must have created some major havoc. I’m not that good a physic, I admit it, but by my inicial calculations it must have hit somewhere in Eastern Asia, maybe what was China or India, or one of the little countries in the area.
I hope this settles the score, see you in the next match and we can speak about it!
Reports indicate a new Exsurgent virus was sited on a qbit network maintained by the Ozymandias Rez Co. Spokes persons for the hypercorp claim that the threat was contained, and assures its customers that no backups were compromised during the attack. Officials from the Jovian Republic have promised a full investigation, as the corrupted archive was present on Europa, inside of Jovian jurisdiction. The infomorph in charge of that archive is not available for comment.

Careful with this one guys, claims may be true, but I believe we may be walking into the middle of a corporate battle. Halo Ltd. has made a recent attempt at buying Ozymandias Rez Co. and they may be interested in forcing a hostile takeover now that the "nice" attempt failed. So it may have been a rumour spread by them in order to weaken the other corporation's bargaining position, and things may get hot quickly.

"One of the oligarchs from the Kerimov Family just placed a bounty package on a public mesh feed! There are something like fifty contracts, but only one of them has been decrypted. The first target is some Jovian bartender last seen on Europa, and the payout is 75,000 credits! For a fucking nobody bartender? What the hell is going on? Did the gerontocracy finally let slip the reigns of sanity, or is there some deeper game going on? Have any of you heard any rumors about who the rest of the targets are?"

Hey I owe you one for that last tip. Consider this payback. I just head that TransSolar is going to report that new cruise ship of theirs, the Solar Princess, missing and presumed lost tommorow. 1000 passengers and 400 crew poof, gone. Fucking weird.
They'll probably try and pin the blame on the shipmaker, shoddy construction, etc etc, or terrorists or something. You've heard that song and dance. I did a little digging for you and it was over budget and late in delivery so make of that what you will. You know their insurance company is going to go nova and turn over every rock from here to the Oort to find out what happened.
Anyway I'd sell that TransSolar stock of yours ASAP.
You're welcome,

News from the Conmara news affiliate is busy blaring its usual propaganda against Gorgon Security. Apparently some independent bounty hunters were a little heavy handed in apprehending a mark, and the Junta is pitching a bitch and refusing to allow cortical stacks to be returned to resleeving interests outside of Jovian space. The mark escaped, and Conmara has added to the bounty another 20,000 credits, but requires the mark delivered alive.
--Gorgon ego-hunter blogger Krix Xross
A series of explosions ripped through Conmara, Europa today, targeting resleeving facilities. So far the death toll is at 230 individuals, and while no group has come forward to claim the attack, bioconservative interests are suspected. Aid workers' efforts have been hampered by the lack of resleeving facilities.

Sure. Count me in. Sounds like creating any fluff for Shadowrun, and that was always fun. I imagine we should take an in-character approach to those comments, so we should maybe create a "usual" character for the comments, or maybe it would be better not to repeat them and instead use a new ic voice each time?
