thanks
Just skimmed that (I'm actually suffering from an eye complaint so it was an infodump and a half!
) - I thought for a moment that it was going to be a prelude to Eclipse Phase set on Earth. Or am I missing something and it is.
Nope. It is made by entirely different people. Its been out for a fair bit, but in German. This is a republish in English.
I picked it up while at GenCon. Indeed, it's a translation of a pre-existing German product (now out of print, I believe). It's sort of a shadowrun/Mad Max setting, it seems, although I haven't had time to do more than flip through the book. The art is pretty hard core, and everyone who already knows about the game says it's pretty awesome. A major caveat though, I don't know if this book is a standalone product or anticipated to be part of a new product line (maybe that depends on how well received it is?)
I played it some years ago. Its still alive, but barely so. The main problem is, that its basically just some guys developing it, focusing more on awesome stories and not on a solid rules-set, which ended up in re-development of the rules which was announced... a year and a half ago?
Its neither dead nor out of print, the game features some awesome themes and possibilities for characters. To me, it always seemed to lack some thought into the "design" of the background. Many cults are hard to integrate into a group or utterly incompatible to other cults (try a Jehammedan and a Anabaptists for example), so good luck with that.
We always did group creations as to avoid certain unpleasantness as a result.
Give it a try. Its a great game, storywise and the fluff reads very good in every book. I'd suggest heavy houseruling of the KatharSys or switching to another rules framework altogether (preferably, something that supports splats and point/buy)
The artwork and story information I've seen so far intrigues me, but I'd love to get a sample of this current printing before plunking down money on the book. Alas, one cannot live on good RPG art alone.
I think it was the EP facebook page where it was said that this is a print on demand version of the book that is to be released later, along with a site dedicated to the game.
I pretty much want a copy of this, but still trying to figure out shipping options (& cost) from IPR. Has anyone outside the US ever placed an order there?
Thanks for your help. I tried placing an order but the shipping cost (for Greece) is just to high. I think the slowest (and cheaper) option was 30$. I'll have to wait for the proper HC release sometime in the future...
I picked up a copy at the Con. So far I am loving it. It sure would be nice to have a PDF copy. It would also be awesome for it to have its own forum / website. I am really hoping this becomes a supported product in the future.
You could try the official forum from Sighpress

Thanks I will check that out. Unfortunately no spreken ze deutsch but, it looks like there are quite a bit of english posts. Now if only we could get that pdf...
I'm so chuffed for this.
Any news?
Nothing. They apparantly work on a book called "Sammelwut" (Collecting Rage) which should feature rules for modifying equipment and combat maneuvers and some WIP stuff gets published in the german RP magazine Mephisto, but Sighpress news never reported on that, so people who don't regularly read the magazine (i don't) haven't got a clue.
So there's news. Degenesis got an english release. I'm a bit confused why no one commented on it in this thread

I can't comment about the quality of the translation, but if it stood true (which i actually expect, i mean, this is not a Feder & Schwert Englisch to German translation) then you have something very awesome to read.
Now the sad part: Its still the original Catharsys system which is said to get a major overhaul in the german rules since... 2 years.
I recommend using a different set of rules. The Storyteller System (oWoD or even nWoD) seemed good enough in theory for my group, but we had two players who simply couldn't come to gripes with the setting.
The quick start rules even offer a fun scenario: Under Siege is definitly fun and good to get a grip of how the game is played, though here i have to voice another recommendation: Create a character and check up on the success chances. Thats a problem we had with the original book. If you don't create a super-specialized character (ie: good shooter, good diplomat, loremaster, etc) then you cripple yourself to unplayability. You get fun stuff together, like a Hellvetic who can't shoot straight or a Chronicler who can't for his motherboards sake find out what this flashlight is and what could be done with it.
All because the player decided to spend some points on melee or social skills.
We didn't get the chance to test using more points or giving away XP at character creation, though.
The translation seems sound. The language is sometimes overly flowery for my tastes, as if they might have had a thesaurus at hand and just went for it, but everything else is good. Haven't really had the time to get into the book properly though, so I cannot add my voice to the setting quality quite yet. Looks amazing though. A friend is running a game tomorrow night, so I will report back on the system then.
"overly flowerly" sounds quite accurat.
My former GM described the flavor text as "It reads more like somebody wanted to write a collection of short stories in the same setting instead of a "proper" RPG background."

I can't seem to get the search engine to work properly. Could you tell me some more about DeGenesis, it looks massive and yet...I known nothing about it....
The Force will be with you. Sometimes.
